Frederic Devreese
Frederic Devreese (Amsterdam 1929) Belgian composer and conductor. He received his first musical training from his father, Godfried Devreese (1893-1972) composer and conductor. He studied composition with Ildebrando Pizzetti at the Academia Santa Cecilia in Rome and conducting with Hans Swarowsky at the State Academy in Vienna. At the age of nineteen he received the Price of the town of Ostend for his first piano concerto. This marked the beginning of a long career as a composer of works for symphony orchestra, but also chamber ensembles, solo music, opera, theatre and cinema.He is the composer of a piano concerto which was the set work for the prestigious Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition (1983)

He wrote for André Delvaux : The man who had his hair cut short, Un Soir, un Train..., Rendez-vous à Bray, Belle, Benvenuta and L’Oeuvre au Noir, Dirck Bouts For Marion Hansël: Noces Barbares and Il Maestro. And Yves Hanchar La Partie d’Echecs, Hugo Claus Het Sacrament; Pauline and Paulette by Lieven De Brauwer and Mein Name ist Bach by Dominique de Rivaz. Devreese was a conductor for the BRTN radio and television station. In addition to various recordings for Marco Polo Frederic Devreese has recorded an Anthology of Flemish Music for which he was nominated Cultural Ambassador of Flanders in 1996 & 1997. He received several national and international awards, the “Prix Italia” for his TV opera Willem van Saeftinghe, the George Delerue Award and twice the Plateau music award for film music.
